An Unhelpful Aid is the sixth episode of Series 1 of Death in Paradise.
With Richard struck down by a tropical disease and Camille in Paris, it is left to Dwayne and Fidel to solve the apparently impossible murder of a local diver. As if their job isn't tough enough, they also have to contend with holidaying British cop DS Angela Young, who proves to be even more annoying than Richard.

Synopsis[]
When Detective Inspector Richard Poole is bedridden with a tropical fever and Detective Sergeant Camille Bordey is on an IT course in Paris, Officers Dwayne Myers and Fidel Best have to solve the murder of a local diver. Commissioner Selwyn Patterson puts in charge Detective Sergeant Angela Young, who is holidaying on the island, and whose eccentric behaviour is even more annoying than Richard's, as well as less effective. Dwayne and Fidel go behind her back supplying case details to Richard who is being looked after by Camille's mother Catherine Bordey and her chicken soup.
Plot[]
Dwayne follows a call down to the beach, where there's been a report of a break in to a storage shed from a local dive school owner. The owner, Phil Owens, needs the crime report number to file an insurance claim, which Dwayne obliges with before hanging around to play a game.
Benjamin Lightfloot waves at Dwayne before jumping off his brothers boat. His brother, Mark Lightfoot arrives outside shortly after, looking worse for ware, and the dive shed owner makes a comment about how they must've gone rather hard drinking last night. Mark laughs, drops a few boxes of rubbish before going back inside.
A few hours later, Benjamin hasnt arrived back yet from his dive and Mark is worried. Phil says he hasn't seen him, and that its been a while. A search is started, and Alex finds Benjamin dead floating at the bottom of 10 feet of water. Benjamin is pulled from the water, and Mark tries to recusitate him as Dwayne discovers his oxygen mask wasnt turned on but the tank was full.
The Inspector still hasn't arrived, so Fidel goes to find him in the shack. He's ill, the doctor says with tropical fever, and Catherine arrives to help take care of him as Fidel leaves to help Dwayne. Fidel mentions that Dwayne finds the death suspicious, and Catherine promises to supervise the ill Inspector, as Fidel goes to leave to assist Dwayne as Camile is still in Paris on an IT training course, so it's just the two of them supervising the station.
